Biography
Anamura is
a musical, literary and entertainment project, and at the same time, it is my
own name. As for music, I compose musical pieces of different styles. As for literature,
my main legendarium is The Lays of Alentë. And as for entertainment, I make
videogames and other types of audiovisual content. I studied Art History at
university, and my specialty is ancient art and scientific art.
Few are the memories between my birth and my adolescence. When I was a child, I remember having a toy piano, and one of its tunes to learn was Für Elise by Beethoven. Maybe that's how I started to get interested in music. It is undeniable that the role of my drummer uncle also influenced me. At that time, according to relatives, my other interests were reading, astronomy, and medicine. Animals are a big part of my life too.
It would be around 2010 when my interest in music became especially important. This was when I discovered metal bands like Nickelback, Avenged Sevenfold and The Used, which were later joined by Rammstein and Marilyn Manson, among others. Thanks to this, it was in 2010 that I bought my electric guitar. At that time, I was 14 years old. In that year I also bought an electronic piano, my electro-acoustic guitar, and portable drums. From now on, the piano would be my favorite instrument when composing, while the drums would be the funniest instrument. Guitars would remain as my main instrument.
Between 2010-2012 I began to form a group with friends, and later, with other people. At this time, the band was called Fegefeuer, inspired by the Divine Comedy. This was when the first demos began to be developed, heavily influenced by Nickelback and Rammstein. In 2013 was when I started listening to bands of many different styles, and this is how I discovered bands like Cannibal Corpse, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, among many others. This would be the beginning of my interest in black metal. Finally, the group ended up breaking up on my own initiative due to problems rehearsing together, and that's how I ended being alone. At this time, Ich suche dich (2012) was developed, produced by Post Mortem Records, with a metal extreme style. That project is a demo, and the songs that were to be part of a future album were later transformed to another style. After this release, I started to study music production myself, and also image editing to design the album covers myself. This is where I discovered Summoning, and their influence was very important.
Moving into 2013, it was when the old songs were transformed from extreme metal to atmospheric black metal. The name of my project changed to Fegefeuer Anilmathiel, the second name being the name of a character in my stories. Of all the compositions I had since 2010, several albums were released throughout 2013, all produced by myself, and these are Verloren (2013), Trostlosigkeit (2013), Songs für eine ferne Liebe (2013), Liebe für immer (2013) and Im Paradies (2013). All these early albums are in german due to the great influence of Rammstein. In the first three albums, the voice makes typical black metal screams, while in the last, the voice transforms into whispers. My uncle's drums were assembled at my grandparents' house, and that's when I was able to start playing real drums. I also had my first violin. Between this year and the following, various covers were developed, such as the albums Rammstein Das Orchester (2014) and One Symphony to Rule Them All: A Tribute to Summoning (2014). Also, instrumental music has always been important to me for as long as I can remember, both classical music and film and video game soundtracks, and its influence will be better seen in later albums.
In 2014 I began to study composition more seriously, especially music theory, counterpoint, and orchestration. This is when Divina Commedia (2014) was released, an album of symphonies inspired by the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, a composition that began years ago and underwent transformations over time, until it had a strange style, as it is instrumental, but it has typical metal extreme drums. In this year my studies in Art History also began. The albums The Mourning Woodlands (2014), The Infinite Dreamlands (2014) and The Forgotten Realmlands (2014) were composed here. The first and third show an atmospheric black metal style of better production, with the voices in the form of whispers. The second, later renamed Dreamlands (2014), was initially going to be like the other two, but in the end it remained as a space-themed instrumental. It was thanks to this composition that I discovered the sound of the erhu in the form of a virtual instrument, which would remain present in my space ambient music, and later, a performance by Yu Hongmei made me fall in love with this instrument. Soon after, I would buy my own erhu.
In 2015 I acquired several musical instruments, such as another violin, a transverse flute, an irish flute, a harmonica, a dizi, a hulusi and an ocarina. I was very interested in trying different musical instruments. This year I moved away from the atmospheric black metal style, and I became more interested in orchestral and neoclassical music, inspired by the group Die Verbannten Kinder Evas. This is how the albums Götterdämmerung (2015), Elysium (2015) and Ragnarök (2015) emerged, of mythological thematic, with the latter featuring the participation of Hildr Valkyrie as a female voice. This year I also acquired a better quality microphone. A compilation album of covers from years past was released under the title Film Melodien (2015). During these years, since 2014, the development of my legendarium began, with the intention of composing music inspired by my own stories. This is how The Lays of Alentë came about.
In 2016, this was the year where all the work of years spent in the lore of The Lays of Alentë gave its result, as it would be in this year that I would compose music inspired by my writings. This year is also important, as it marks the moment where I started developing videogames. The first album of the year was Beyond (2016), a space-themed album, following in the wake of the previous one with the same theme, but with higher quality. The first works related to my lore in terms of music were Ceanes (2016) and Nanë e Unnoë Narmethë (2016). The first is a serie of orchestral pieces inspired by the myth of the creation of Unir, and the second has a style that mixes atmospheric black metal with whispers with folk music. This album is where the leitmotifs of the cultures of Alentë emerged. At this time, For Syria (2016) also emerged, later renamed to For Earth (2016), which would become an album where I express my feelings about real catastrophes through music. I started developing video games with RPG Maker, and although my first attempt was a short game based on an event from my stories, my first big project was a game inspired by my legendarium, titled The Lays of Alentë (2016). In this game there are recreations of cultures, where the main objective is exploration. Due to my limited knowledge, this first version was greatly updated years later. The soundtrack of this game, called Alententa (2016), would be my masterpiece, and my longest and most complex work. The last album of the year would be Aancë (2016), inspired by the enemies of the cultures of my stories, where I return to metal in the form of symphonic black metal, this time with screams. At the end of this year, I developed the worlds of my legendarium in Minecraft and Unity, and that's how I started 3D game development. There were released The Lays of Alentë Minecraft Maps (2016), which would be updated three years later, and The Lays of Alentë Unity Maps (2016), where you can explore the landscapes of my worlds. Also this year, I did a Survival on Mars course taught by Monash University.
The next two years are the years where I focused especially on videogame development and my research in Scientific Art. In 2017, Spacescapes (2017) and My Home (2017) were released as the main projects, developed with Unity, with their respective soundtracks. The first is a space-themed game with ambient music, being my third space-themed album, where I mainly tried to use sound effects. The second is a game of multiple genres, and so is music, because thanks to this, I was able to practice composing music for game genres as adventure, horror, racing, among others. A couple of games were developed collectively called The Tale of the Robot (2017), one in RPG Maker and one in Unity. The first was a challenge, which consisted of developing a video game in the shortest time possible, and the second is a platform game, and both used the same electronic music, also composed for the occasion. Animals (2017) was also developed, in honor of my first hamster, with its corresponding music, and updated two years later. Finally, The Lays of Alentë Rise of Nations Mod (2017), a mod for this game, was also developed, basically changing the texts so that it seems that you are playing with the civilizations of my legendarium. In this year, my own application for android was also created, using MIT App Inventor.
The year 2018 was my last year at university, so my priority was to finish my studies and everything related to that. I did an internship at an art gallery, and since I really liked it, I started my own art gallery project, titled Asura Gallery. In this year, my research in Scientific Art was finished. About my projects, there was nothing about music, except that I took learning erhu more seriously than before. Regarding videogames, Save the Shire (2018) and Una Aventura Oriental (2018) were developed. The first one was only done to practice with the development of a traditional RPG, while the second one was developed to help me with the study. The writing of the first book of The Lays of Alentë continued, and there was much rewriting of lore. After university, I had a well-deserved time off.
The year 2019 was the year of the completion of the projects and ideas that were pending long ago. The name of my project changed to Anamura, and this would be the general name that I would use as sign of identity. The first musical album of this year was Fernweh (2019), a little symphony, as I had been wanting to try composing one for years. The first book of The Lays of Alentë was finished in this year as well. Four videogames were developed this year, in addition to various updates to others. The first was the already started The Lays of Alentë (2016), which was remastered, and ended up with three expansions in total. The great project of this year is Samsara (2019), inspired by Asta: The War of Tears and Winds, and featuring its original music by Ryo Kunihiko. The development of this videogame lasted throughout 2019, having five expansions in total. Between these two games, my knowledge of videogame development grew enormously. Two short games were also developed, called Horroria (2019) and Cosmorama (2019), the first being a horror game, and the second was an RPG game set in a futuristic environment, both with music from years ago. One more musical album was released this year, titled Eine Flamme im Herzen (2019), where old songs were adapted on piano.
With all the projects completed, 2020 is coming for a new era. I started a YouTube channel specifically created for various content, especially about the lore of my legendarium, whose name is Anamura Universe. A new piece of music was composed inspired by the coronavirus pandemic, titled For Wuhan. At this point, the erhu has already become my most important instrument, and symbol of my identity. A new album titled Mythos (2020) was released, inspired by the traditional music of different human cultures. After a short break, I started the development of a new album, whose idea had already been forming in my mind. This would be a very personal album, an experimental album that would mix the styles that I have developed the most throughout my career. Thus, this album was entitled Xiangi (2020), and resulted in a mixture of atmospheric and ambient music with poetry and traditional Chinese instruments, with a philosophical thematic. As a challenge, and because I missed developing a videogame, I developed Magic Mystery (2020), a short videogame developed in two weeks. Throughout this year, and especially in recent months, I was thinking about what to do with The Lays of Alentë, as I was not very happy with the result of the first book. Finally, it is becoming clear what has to be changed. The perspective of my legendarium will be different, and all this time of reflection has also helped me to know myself, and to know what I like the most and why. Certainly, this year was a year of rediscovering myself, and continuing to walk towards a new future. This year, also, is my 10th anniversary, since I am 10 years old since I started composing music, and being 25 years old, I have created 25 music albums. In commemoration, a Compilation of 25 songs, one from each album, was released on Yungcloud. It has been a year of many changes in my life, and a fantastic year for myself and for self growth, marking the end of an era and the start of a new beginning.
The beginning of 2021 starts with Twitch, and over all january, the channel started to get in motion. Then, the next months would be dedicated to revamping old projects, and new exciting ones. In february, I made the project that, originally, was going to be about generic music. This turned to be very similar to My Home, and so those tracks were added to the album My Home (2017/2021). This also resulted in the separation of the Animals music from My Home. March and april would see the revamp of most of my games. In early march, the album Animals (2017) was re-released, with updated artwork by Jasmine Lattimer. And also, the game Animals (2017/2019/2021) was updated with this new artwork and new content, with its apk built. The updates on games was paused, since another project arised. This is, the composition of the soundtrack for Chang'e (2021), a film that is still unreleased to this date. After this was done, the updates on games continued. The game Horroria (2019/2021) received a minor update. The extra music for My Home was finished, and then, the Unity games were updated, starting april. Spacescapes (2017/2021), The Lays of Alentë Unity Worlds (2016/2021) and My Home (2017/2021) received a major update with improved artwork and changes, and then Hamster Home (2017/2021) followed to this, since this level was made standalone, separated from My Home. Then, the games of the robot were updated, receiving a new name, as Robot Escape (2017/2021) and Robot Dream (2017/2021). The next games on being updated were Save the Shire (2018/2021), which received a major update with new artwork and content, and Magic Mystery (2020/2021), with new artwork. Finally, the games Cosmorama (2019/2021) and Samsara (2019/2021) were updated, adding more objects for the housing to the first, and a new final region for the second. After a break lasting a month, and years of reflection, now entering june, I decided to liberate all my art, sharing it for free. The art gallery project called Asura Gallery was revived. Much work was done on the old Land of the Art channel for this purpose. After this, the summer was dedicated exclusively to the remake of Una Aventura Oriental (2018), which would become An Artistic Adventure (2018/2021), where all the cultures of the world can be explored. After all the work, rest comes again. In September, my research Scientific Art - Theory and Manifest (2018/2021) was translated and published in LeanPub, in Spanish and English, translated by myself. The games Animals, Hamster Home, Robot Escape and Robot Dream were adapted as browser games, and published also in Newgrounds. After a small update to the game The Lays of Alentë (2016/2019/2021), all the updates for games already created have been finalized. In october, games began to be developed using pending ideas. There were developed The Escape (2021), An Artistic Adventure Europe Edition (2021), and because Halloween, The Mansion (2021) with Twine, and The Sacrifice (2021), that would participate in Spooktober Jam 2021 in Itchio. It was also finally published the soundtrack of Chang'e (2021). In November, the games Dungeon Quest (2021) and Dungeon Conquest (2021) were developed, the last one being a dungeon crawler, along with its soundtrack, entitled Dungeon Conquest (2021), thus finalizing all pending ideas.
The year 2022 is the year of the study. Throughout the year I studied medicine, read many books on mythology and universal literature, streamed art history, and finally, I studied astronomy, geology and biology, especially botany and zoology. I also had the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom. At the end of the year, the game Aika Monogatari (2022) was also developed, which tells a love story between people from different worlds, with erhu music, including my first recording with erhu.
The year 2023 marks a moment where the past, present and future intermingle, because at a time where life seems aimless, the foundations of new horizons have been laid. Regarding the past, my legendarium Alententa, or The Lays of Alentë, is finally being written, after the experience gained over the years, and especially, from the previous year reading a lot of mythology. This writing continued throughout the year, writing one cycle per week, or one book every five weeks, ending with a total of eight books, comprising Creation and the First Era, since the Second Era would be written the year following. Regarding the present, having been able to earn money, I was able to afford to start new hobbies that I couldn't afford before, such as oil painting and photography, and also pipa. In particular, photography has become a new passion, and throughout this year I have taken many photos, especially macro photography. In addition to this, it also marks the beginning of my passion for travel, and this year I visited numerous places in Italy, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Portugal and Germany. I also started studying the Chinese language more seriously, using Duolingo for now. A few piano versions of old songs were added to the album Eine Flamme im Herzen (2019/2023), on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the old albums, plus I started uploading my music to Spotify and Youtube Music to expand it further. The games Dungeon Reconquest (2023) and Dungeon Request (2023) were also developed, as sequels to the Dungeon Conquest (2021) game series, for the Adventure Jam 2023 and Honor the Dear Emotional Game Jam, respectively. Other small projects have also been in development, such as stores on Redbubble, store for my books on Gumroad, store on Amazon, using Odysee instead of Youtube, and so on. Regarding the future, various personal and life experiences have made me rethink many questions about what to do in the coming years, and it is something that remains to be seen.
The year 2024 has been a year of continued writing and a return to the metal style in music. I started making Corazón de Cristal (2024), as the first song in Spanish, inspired by feelings of love and loss. Afterwards, I continued with Las Baladas de Alentë, developing the Second Age, a series of horror stories. Once finished, I made Mukvariz (2024), a traditional black metal album inspired by fears. I returned to writing again, making the Third Age. I had the opportunity to travel again, returning to Portugal and Italy. In the summer I made a small industrial metal album entitled Passion (2024). After writing the Fourth Age and resting, I finished developing the Myths, and in this way, at the end of the summer, I had completed my goal of writing Las Baladas de Alentë. Although it was not completely finished, the hardest part was already done. Then, in the fall, I developed the musical album that I had wanted to make for so many years, which ended up being titled Balassäna Alentenatula (2024), an atmospheric black metal album inspired by the lore of the Lays of Alentë. At the same time, I finished editing the texts of the Appendices and the development of the Annals. During these months I also developed the video game Barrow Arm Simulator (2024), as the last project of the year. A song called For Valencia was added to the album For Earth, inspired by the tragedy of the flood. Finally, a collection of stories from the Lays of Alentë was edited to be released at the beginning of the new year, with a physical edition. Many projects have come to an end this year, and soon all my artistic aspirations could be finished.
